Peterborough Hospital

A Public Sector Comparator for Peterborough Hospitals NHS Trust in preparation for their PFI bidding process. The PSC Masterplan took account of the existing Edith Cavell Hospital on the outskirts of Peterborough and made best use of the good quality buildings on the site, whilst adding a substantial new-build development to bring the hospital into the future. This proposal created a solution that minimised capital cost by refurbishing much of the existing estate.

The strong E-W axis of the older hospital was retained and a new N-S route was added, leading from the existing main frontage and rising over the older route to provide direct access to the new departments including a discrete women and children’s centre. An Integrated Care Centre was also proposed to be located in the town centre

The proposal carried strong clinical support and was judged by the NHS review panel which assessed it as a very high quality example of a PSC. It was included in the NHS publication ‘Tomorrow’s Hospitals’
